Live Video Web Streaming

Live Web Streaming. What is it & how does it work?

For those of you that are too sure of what live web streaming is or perhaps you need to explain to your clients what it is, we'll try and sum it up below for you.

Web streaming is a technology that we have built into our studio systems that allows any camera and it's microphone within the viewing studios or conference room to pass their live video and audio feed onto the internet as and when required. Without going into the technicalities this enables anyone with a computer, an internet connection and a browser (Explorer) to view the live feed from any location. So whether it's the client's managing director who wants to watch your groups live from a laptop whilst sitting in his kitchen or a group of international clients located on the other side of the world who have a projector connected to their laptop in a conference room, Invision can send your focus groups anywhere.

The system can prove that cost effective that many clients choose to watch their focus groups via this method as opposed to incurring additional costs associated with attending the groups in person i.e. their time, travel costs and accommodation charges.

What is required of me to view a live web stream of a focus group?

All that is required of the remote viewer is that they have 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' on their computer, and a fast connection to the internet. (i.e. broadband, T1 Line, 3G)

Follow a very simple procedure as detailed below.

Activating 'ActiveX Controls'

The users laptop should be set to accept ActiveX Controls as the viewing portal utilizes a small program to allow the cameras to be viewed.
  1. Click on Start, then Control Panel
  2. Launch Internet Options
  3. Click on the Security Tab
  4. Click on the Custom Levels button
  5. Scroll Down till you find the following options
    -Download unsigned ActiveX controls
-Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting
  6. Set the above options to prompt
  7. Click OK to apply these changes
  8. Click OK
Once this is complete the user's computer will now be able to receive the web stream.

(It is advised that the users internet options are returned to their normal security settings after finishing with the web stream.)

Accessing the Web Stream

Make sure that the web stream is turned on through arrangement with the Studio Manager.

Go to the webpage: http://www.invisionstudios.co.uk/Live.asp

Wait for the Active X control to load. This will take between 30 - 60 seconds.

Once the dialogue box appears follow the procedure below:

For 'User' type in the username as given by the studio manager.

For 'Password' type in the password as given by the studio manager.

We recommend selecting the 'Network Type' as 512K but sometimes if you have a slow network you might need to select 64K - but this is slower.

Once this is complete the user will be able to see the studio on their screen.

What is the cost?

Live Web Streaming costs £100 per hour per computer connecting. To maintain quality we advise only a maximum of four computers connect to the web stream at any one time.

The cost savings can be quite significant if clients consider the travel costs, hotel costs, etc if they were to view the groups at the studios.

Would it be possible to view a demonstration of the Web Stream?

Yes, we will be more than happy to demonstrate the technology to interested parties. Please contact our studio manager to arrange a demonstration.
